Curve - Gift

Gift was the fourth all-new studio album to be released by the British band Curve.

Following two years of legal wrangles between the group and their then record company, Universal Records, the online success of Curve's self-released album Open Day at the Hate Fest convinced Universal - who had been threatening to shelve the album completely - to market it under the Hip-O Records brand.

Of the songs on the record, "Hell Above Water" has gained the highest public profile as a result of its use in trailers for both the 2002 film Spider-Man, the 2008 film Iron Man, an episode for the popular crime drama CSI (Episode 207, Caged), and featured in a scene in the 2008 film Lakeview Terrace. It is also featured in the PlayStation 3 game MotorStorm, and is most famous for being used as the intro tune to the popular internet meme, "The Lazer Collection" by American animator, Dominic Fera.

The Skatalites - Hi-Bop Ska!

The founders of Skatalites were Tommy McCook (died 1998), Rolando Alphonso (died 1998), Lloyd Brevett, Lloyd Knibb, Lester Sterling, Don Drummond (died 1969), Jah Jerry Haynes (died 2007), Jackie Mittoo (died 1990), Johnny Moore (died 2008), Jackie Opel (died 1970). These nine musicians started to play together from 1955, when Kingston's recording studios started to develop. Tommy McCook was the first member of the band to record, though not for commercial release: he played with Don Hitchman's Group in 1953. Archie Lindo asked Hitchman to play few tunes for his pioneer radio station, "ZQI", on their new equipment. Soon after that, sound system pioneer Stanley Motta began to operate his studio, where he recorded calypso and mento that were released on 78's. Rolando Alphonso was one of the first to record with him, probably in 1954.Though McCook was the first in the band to record, he did not participate in recording sessions with other eight musicians. He left Jamaica in 1954 for a jazz gig at the Zanzibar Club in Nassau, Bahamas. He returned to Jamaica in June of 1962, and began playing regular jazz sessions around Kingston.
Coxsone Dodd searched jazz players around Kingston and was impressed by McCook's playing. Tommy McCook heard some ska, but initially resisted Coxsone Dodd's offers to record and to lead a studio group, because he was a committed jazzman. In 1962 Dodd released I Cover The Waterfront (Port-O-Jam) with Roland Aplhonso and Don Drummond, who did solo and brass sections. In 1963 he released Jazz Jamaica From the Workshop (Port-O-Jam/Studio One), where McCook played first time since returning to Jamaica. Don Drummond has two tunes on Jazz Jamaica and McCook's has one, "The Answer".

Melvins - The Crybaby

The Crybaby is an album by Melvins, released in 2000 through Ipecac Recordings, and the last part of a trilogy: The Maggot, The Bootlicker and The Crybaby. The trilogy was released on vinyl by Ipecac Recordings (The Trilogy Vinyl, IPC-011, November 27, 2000).

"Dry Drunk" includes "Interlude," written and performed by Godzik Pink. On the CD version, after a few minutes of silence there is a spooky sample of the intro to "Amazon" (the first song on The Maggot) after "Moon Pie", followed by more silence. The album ends with a man screaming "AGAIN!".

The Trilogy vinyl version features an edited version of "Divorced" and lacks four songs: "Dry Drunk", "Okie From Muskogee", "The Man With The Laughing Hand Is Dead," and "Moon Pie".

"Divorced" contains performances by the band Tool, as well as a conversation between Tool drummer Danny Carey and frontman Maynard James Keenan.
